Fluoroscopic Imaging

Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique that utilizes X-rays to acquire in-time moving images of the interior of an object. Its main use is in medical imaging and at Medical Foot Solutions, we take advantage of this technology to get a better look at the internal structure and functionality of your feet. Specifically, we're looking at your muscles, bones, ligaments and joints. Fluoroscopy is similar to radiography, but instead of putting fixed still images on film, fluoroscopy provides live moving pictures that can be stored and retrieved for further analysis.

Fluoroscopy imaging is a part of our diagnosis process for certain foot-related issues to help us see what the next steps for treatment should be. The fluoroscopy imaging method itself is painless. Depending on your issue, moving your foot around to see the specific parts of the foot that may be causing the ailment could cause some pain or discomfort. The procedure is done in our office, and the process is quick. A fluoroscopy test may range from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the issue being evaluated.

After the fluoroscopy imaging is done, the images and videos will be carefully studied to find the cause of the problem in your foot or feet. One of our licensed chiropodists will analyze and interpret the imaging and then you will be contacted about what the next recommended steps for treatment are.

Other common uses for fluoroscopic imaging include:

  • Locating foreign bodies
  • Guiding anesthetic injections
  • Viscosupplementation injections
  • Evaluation of bones, muscles and joints

Symptoms that may require the use of fluoroscopy imaging:

  • Interior foot pain
  • Examining the foot if you think it's been fractured
  • Discomfort due to arthritis
  • Possible dislocations
  • Other deformities
